Around seventy thousand believers join the procession the Lord of the Earthquakes in Cusco

It is considered as the larger religious activity during the Holy Week

Cuzco.- Around seventy thousand believers will join today, at 2.30 pm, the traditional procession and blessing of the Lord of the Earthquakes in Cusco. The Saint statues will be carried from the Cathedral and will travel round during several hours the streets of Sapy, Santa Teresa, Siete Cuartones, Granada, Marqués, Mantas and the El Sol avenue, as well as San Francisco y Espinar squares. This event will be massively followed by the believers which will pack the monumental zone, with the hope of being blessed by the Lord. The best places to observe the procession are the colonial and republican balconies of the streets. Along the way, the Lord of the Earthquakes statue receives a literal “bath” of flowers called ñucchu, which is a native flower used by the Incas to bless the sacred things. During the tour, the Crucified Christ makes two stops, one at the Santa Teresa Convent, the other at the Merced Basilica, where it will receive catholic rites. The cult to the Lord of the Earthquakes started at the beginning of the XVII century and is supposed to have taken great force in 1650, when the Statue is said to have saved the city by stopping and earthquake.

The traditional procession and blessing of the Lord will end around 7pm.

Funeral offering discovery of the pre-Hispanic time

Found in Sacsahuamán

The archaeological park of Sacsahuamán revealed a new secret. First they were the ruins of a temple Inca, who included a way and a complex hydraulic network, discovered in March by the National Institute of Culture of the Cusco (INC).

This time is a funeral offering of the pre-Hispanic time found in the well-known zone called the Temple of the Moon or Lake. This offering, found the past Friday 27, is formed by a metal bracelet in yellow color, that --according to the archaeologist Washington Camacho, director of the National Archaeological Park of Sacsahuamán-- could be a golden piece. Besides it, a knife champi (product of a diverse metal alloy), laminated silver and other objects.

The found pieces were sent to a physic-chemical laboratory to evaluate them, to define the materials and to realize the corresponding treatment, as indicated by Washington Camacho. It is necessary to emphasize that these excavations happen to be part of the implementation of the masterful plan of the component of the cultural patrimony, that includes the execution of six projects of investigation in the park, by disposition of the Regional Division of INC.
